  3. Well, three weeks down the road and all is good. Got myself a 2007 model with 103.5K on the clock, previous owner had the turbo replaced recently, done the cam, the water pump and the gearbox so all in all it all seems good plus for a 2.0 140 version, it is kicking out 190BHP and around 400ib/ft of torque so it is lively and is doing approx 45-50mpg on a run - so I am quite happy with that.

  4. Thanks Trevor, I will try strimmer cord and a bit of air. Don't fancy taking the head liner off. Does the drain holes come out under the bonnet/bulkhead? I'll call my local dealership and will let you know what they say. Thanks again

  5. Hi, I bought a 58 plate Golf Sportswagen 2 litre diesel yesterday. I'm sure I'll be asking questions, previous car was a 55 plate Volvo V50 diesel, which was a great car, sat outside my house with 234,000 miles on the clock. Golf is " baby" at 159,000 miles.

  7. Hi I just joined, looking for some advice please. I have an old girl 2000 Golf tdi and at the moment she's unable to go out of drives very often (my ill health, not hers). I need to keep her going in case there's a medical emergency and breakdown cover is limited re. repeat call outs for the same problem. So I'm pretty desperate. I've been looking for a compatible solar powered battery maintainer. I've read that the AA one that has good reviews but the ad says it's for diesels from 2004 onwards, an EOBD socket is required. I have no technical nous at all, does anyone know if this would be compatible with the diagnostic socket in the car? Or if not, what would be? My local main dealer has no idea!! I'd appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Effie

  8. Thanks for the reply Trevor, when I get time to take it to the dealer I will upate you. Definitely nothing loose that I can find anyway. Looking on Google it seems others have had similar issues, some say it's how the DSG box is? I can't see how tho as it sounds terrible. Thanks again.

  9. Hi Smithy....welcome to the Forum Not sure I know of any specific rattles coming from the transmission but I think I would definitely throw it back at the dealer for them to rectify any issues. One thing though, I don't know whether a transmission would necessarily create a rattle if going over bumps, would have thought it would be there permanently....more than likely some loose trim under the car, engine bay or similar? Keep us updated on what you find Cheers, Trevor

  11. Thanks for the advice - things getting towards sorted now. I highlighted the tyres and they put 4 matching new ones on earlier in the week. They're blaming human error for me needing to chase that after 2 supposed Das Welt Auto checks... and they're covering the cost of me getting the car properly valeted. Disappointing service, but I do at least love the car.

  12. Hi Steve...welcome to the Forum Oh dear! you have had a drama with the car. Doesn't surprise me with dealerships (of most makes in general) but to miss out safety checks is unforgivable! Given that you have paperwork stating that the checks have been carried out by them, this would, in theory, oblige them to carry out any warranty but I would ensure that you either replace the tyres for the same type and/or find some other evidence (dated photograph) of any other anomalies. let us know how this all goes

  13. Hi Everyone - Just joined. Have a new Golf Bluemotion 1.4tsi automatic since October 2015. Great car. Experiencing start/stop problems over the last 3 or 4 months though.

  14. Update. I took the car back in on that Wednesday. They couldn't find anything wrong apart from the battery being slightly under voltage. They asked to keep it overnight to give the battery a good charge, which I let them do. Next day I was told that the only problem being reported was still the same undervolt, so they were going to replace the battery at their expense because the battery problem wasn't being flagged as a problem by VW diagnostics and wouldn't be replaced under warranty.. I was told they didn't keep batteries in stock and that I'd get a new one the following week. Bo real problem with that as the car was perfectly usable without stop/start. So I drove the car away. Guess what, the start/stop was working. I could see by some of my setting that there must have been some sort of general reset performed so maybe that cured the issue. Goes to show they didn't bother to really test the stop/start, but just relied on computer readouts. Worrying. Anyway I drove the car for a further week with the stop/start working perfectly, but I thought I might has well have a new battery for all the inconvenience they had caused me. That was replaced yesterday. Stop/start is still working. Incidentally, despite all the warnings about various parameters having to be right before it would work, even in the cold snap we have just had, the start/stop is operable within about 30 seconds. So, nobody seems to be any the wiser as to what was causing the problem and what fixed it. Hey-ho. The cars are too clever for the technicians, I guess.

  15. Thanks for that. It's booked in again for next Wednesday. They know I'm not happy. Fortunately the car is still under warranty. I assume that covers a battery if it's faulty.

  16. it may do, depends if they class it as wear & tear

  19. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132701450814 Happy to take any offers on this car - just send on through! Selling because it just failed its MOT. However we were very much undecided whether to fix it up or give up on it. Apart from the issues listed below, the car is in a good state. She's never broken down on us once and has been driving brilliantly. The interior is a bit worn, but in line with her age. The failing points from the MOT are below: Nearside Front Brake disc significantly and obviously worn (1.1.14 (a) (i)) Offside Front Brake disc significantly and obviously worn (1.1.14 (a) (i)) Nearside Rear Brake disc significantly and obviously worn (1.1.14 (a) (i)) Offside Rear Brake disc significantly and obviously worn (1.1.14 (a) (i)) Exhaust emits excessive dense blue smoke during acceleration (8.2.1.2 (g)) Getting the brakes fixed was estimated at about 300. Our main concern was the exhaust emission / engine burning oil. The garage wasn't sure what it was. They offered to run diagnostics on it but said they wouldn't be able to tell what the issue was until then and with the other issues listed below, we took the decision not to proceed and sell on for spares or repairs instead. The main other issues with the car are: 1: Drivers side electric window motor has gone. Needs new one. Because of this, the roof isn't currently going down, but we've had this checked out at the garage and they confirmed that the only issue was the drivers side window - this needs to go down before the roof mechanism can then retract. Estimate for parts and labour to fix was 400, but if you can get spare motor from elsewhere / scrapped car then should be easily fixable. If car has passed MOT, we were all set to get this repaired immediately. 2: Slow puncture on right rear tyre. Just needs new tyre. Others are fine - all tyres were replaced just last year. 3: Drivers seat has a split in the upholstery, as can be seen in the photos above. 4: Passenger side door - the mechanism that holds the door open has weakened so it oftens closes itself. 5: Boot hatch - works fine but doesn't stay fully upright when opened - the mechanism has weakened a bit so it drops a little from the fully open position. 6: Interior - felt under the roof mechanism has come loose. Plastic part inside rear that lifts to make neat seal when roof is down has come loose - we still have it but needs reattaching. 7: Engine management warning light stays on on dashboard. It has sporadically gone on and off, but seems to be on more than off at the moment. Other than these issues though, we've been very much enjoying driving her. The engine has seemed fantastic to us - we've taken her on many drives across the country, such as from South Coast to Wales and back, to north of England etc. Never any problems at all and the driving has been smooth, with good acceleration. We were absolutely all set to repair the window and tyre and hoped to have her for a few more years yet, but the MOT results has swung us towards just buying a newer car now instead. If you know what you're doing though to fix the engine (perhaps just flushing the engine through might be enough!) then this could truly be a great bargain of a car! Car is currently parked up on a road near us where parking is free. Obviously with no MOT we can't move it so you'll need to be able to come and pick her up. The place where she's parked is very easily accessible though to tow her. Otherwise she starts and drives brilliantly still, so if you're in effect taking her to work on her and MOT her, I think maybe you can drive her there even though she doesn't have MOT (you'll need to check the law on this one)..

  26. Hi Everyone,This is my first post on here although I have owned many vw's over the years, I hope someone will be able to give me some advice. My wife drives a 2017 Vw Golf R line with the 7 speed DSG gearbox we have owned it from new(it now has 5k miles on the clock) It has a really anoying rattle that you can only hear with the windows down when going over a slightly bumpy road, you can also hear it if the car is driven past you. I am a subaru mechanic and have checked the car over and all seems ok. I have heard it could be the DSG box rattling, if it is the box should it be that bad at 5k miles? I know you are probably thinking why not take it to the garage and get them to check as it's under warranty, I will do but thought I would ask if anyone has had a similar noise on a nearly new 7 speed DSG. Also on one occasion the car stalled when selecting drive and in the display it said fault with gearbox. Thanks in advance. I

  27. I have not been yet...just not had a chance to get there. I will probably just wait until it goes in for the first service (if it makes it until then).
