  5. Hi, I'm viewing a 2011 Passat with original VW media screens in the headrests. I've no experience of using these in any car and was wondering how they work. From the advert photos there seems to be a USB socket. Do you simply connect your smartphone to the unit using a USB cable and whatever you're watching on your smartphone (Netflix, Amazon etc) it is shown on the screens? Are they DVD compatible as well? Hopefully someone can help.

Hi, I have a Passat B7 estate, blue motion. It has climate control, due side. Can anybody tell em how climate control works? When i set a temperate, say 22 degrees, will it adjust the total air temp to 22 in the cabin, or will it blow out air at that temperature. If the first option, would you expect if it was really hot in the car, left in the sun all day, and you set it to 22, it woudl be cool air blowing as the inside cabin temp is higher than 22, or would it still slow warm air at 22 degrees? Hope that makes sense

  9. Hi I'm new to the forum so if this topic has been extensively covered I'm sorry. I've just bought a 2007 VW Passat TDI sport estate. When you start it up from cold it's a bit lumpy at idle, but the when it's been left to warm up it's smells quiet bad, like a really old burnt out engine. It'll tickover nicely when warm but there seems to be a lot of black / grey smoke coming out the exhaust. Are these signs of a blocked up EGR valve or something else. Please help, I've only just bought the car and I just hope it's not a lemon cheers Gary 😂

  11. Just bought a 2006 Passat Estate for my daughter. The door mirrors are electrically adjustable but have no provision for folding on the control knob. Can they be just pushed in when parking in tight areas? Reluctant to try too hard as there seems a lot of resistance. Thanks

Hi Simple question hopefully. I loaded about 125kg of sand into the boot of my car. Is this a safe load for the rear suspension? There was nothing else in the car other than me, and I am only about 75kg. Just a bit concerned it seemed lower the next day, although could be imagining that. Have struggled to work out what the car can take from the manual. Any feedback would be appreciated. Many thanks

This is a long shot, but I just discovered my late Grandad's 2004 Passat estate (AF54 WPL) is still on the road via gov.uk with over 200,000 miles on the clock! He bought it brand new in 2004 and it was his pride and joy. I remember the first time he turned up to my parents' house in it and he spent ages showing me round. He died in 2007 and my Grandma sold it shortly afterwards. If the owner happens to stumble across this post and is ever thinking about selling I would love to take it off you. I'm very sentimental like that 😁

My passat has trouble opening the central locking. The garage replaced key 12 months ago. The key has now intermittently stopped unlocking ( locks ok) but I can unlock it using the other key. a garage reported that the alternate key had failed yo unlock for him . he used the backup method of opening the door. The new key cost £400 + service charge to register it to the car. Is this a common problem? any DIY method of fixing?

  17. Started by Junglie,

Just bought a Passat, and the locking system confuses me. The key fob will wirelessly open the front two doors but only locks the drivers door, the rear two doors just remain locked. If I open the drivers door with the key the alarm sounds. Is this normal or is there something adrift with my remote locking system?

I need a piece of trim for my Passat. It is the chrome piece central to the door. It is for my rear passenger door offside. I contacted VW and they want over £100 for the entire kit which is silly really. Any ideas where I could get this?

  19. Hi All Newbie here…Thought I would share our experience so far of buying a 2017 VW Passat Estate (B8) R-Line 2.0 TSI (217bhp) / DSG, imported from Japan. The car is in immaculate condition and the 2.0 TSI petrol combined with the DSG is so smooth and powerful. The level of tech is luxury, full digital cockpit, full leather, fully electric/heated front seats (driver seat with memory function and massage function), reverse camera, lane assist, park assist, cruise control down to 0mph + restart in traffic, electric tailgate, blind spot detection, apple/android connection. We purchased from a company near Chester who specialise in parallel (unmodified)…

  20. The connection on the turbo boost hose to the intercooler has failed again. The x2 holding lugs to the intercooler connection clip does not hold the hose in position. This is the third hose failure which happens around every 50,000mls. Is there an upgraded clip or other modification available?

Hi all - I’m new to the forum and grateful to have found you. I’m hoping to get some advice. Passenger door window on my 55 Reg B6 doesn’t move up or down. (securely stuck in up position) There is power to the motor from driver and passenger door switches as heard by the “click” when pressed. My suspicions are that it is the motor that is faulty and not anything to do with the tracking, cables or regulator. Question:- Can I replace the motor in its place without having to remove the whole metal panel and its components. Are there any risks to the window dropping / smashing if I remove the motor without securing the window first. Any other things I should lo…

Hi I have a 2.0 litre diesel 2018 plate with a DSG gear box. I had the mechatronic box replaced in Nov-23 and last year I started to notice it was occasionally "slipping" between 2nd and 3rd gears i.e. revving well over 2000 (it would normally changed 2nd to 3rd at about 2000 revs). Some times it would change automatically after the high revs, some times I would slow down and it would then change. I had never paid attention to the rev's before I had the fault that resulted in the new mechatronic (that was a complete failure with no warning, leaving me with just 2,4 and 6th gears). The "slipping" was very infrequent. I mentioned this to the independent VW/Audi specia…
