Loud knocking on VW Golf

Does anybody know what a loud knocking sound could be on a VW Golf 53 plate when turning?? It is a real loud knocking/rattling sound like your dragging metal. It is not continuous,it comes and goes but starts only after turning.

I imagine that the knocking noise could be due to a CV joint which needs repairing. Its been quite long since u posted this issue, have u resolved it yet?
