2004 touareg brakes

I have a 54 reg. touareg a 2.5 lt. diesel and find the brakes could be better. should I consider changing to Brembo brake callipers, and if so are there other changes needed. would Brembo brakes have been an option as extra on touaregs then. any advise would be welcome
