  2. Well thats certainly an odd one! I do wonder if the brake servo is a new generation of electronic braking assistance and these tests wouldn't necessarily apply. Another possible cause could be a brake hose collapsing internally, although very rare but does give similar issues. It is okay for the pads to catch assuming the brakes work fine until everything beds in nicely (circa 100 miles to be on the safe side) As long as the braking efficiency is there then it should be fine to drive. A quick test to see if any of the brakes are dragging is to get a digital infared temperature gun and measure each disc after a good run of hard braking, etc. Another way to accurately determine the efficiency of the brakes and if any of them are binding is to put it on an MOT Brake Test rollers and see if the needle or digital reading picks up any drag or deficiency on any of the wheels Let us know how you get on with the garage
  3. Thanks for the info. I didnt mention it but I first replaced with Bosch discs and pads and the noise still happened. VW garage basically put it down to non approved parts so I took a gamble and fitted genuine parts only to find still issue. Just seen a video regarding testing the brake booster. Whilst car is off you pump the brake until it goes hard, then start the car with foot on the brake pedal. If the booster is working the pedal should gently sink further down. Testing this on my wife’s Polo this happens as stated, however, on my golf the pedal doesn’t go hard when pumping the brake (when off) nor does it move when staring the car. Wondering if this points toward a booster issue. At first, when the car was up on the jack and I had just put on new discs and pads the wheels spun freely. However after a quick test drive and jacking up after the wheels didn’t spin as freely and it sounded like the pads were catch slightly. Taking it to a local garage tomorrow whom I’ve used many times before. Hopefully they can have a look and give their thoughts.
  4. Generally, I tend to encounter such issues and squealing or grinding brakes and can attribute it to poorly fitted pads, incorrect or missing shims and more importantly, lack of compound between the pads and caliper carrier bracket. By not applying a compound such as copperslip (which is not so necessary on stainless shims) you would have a corrosion factor with dissimilar metals. You have done everything exactly as it should be done (and believe me, most of the issues I have encountered with dragging and squealing brakes are when those who fit the brakes do not do this). Also, a lot of pads (if supplied from a dubious source of origin) may sometimes be slightly larger due to excess paint on the pads, which sometimes needs scraping back to fit correctly and this leads to the pads 'grabbing' and not retracting once applied. Outside of the pads and calipers, issues such as a faulty brake servo, ABS and other related hydraulic issues it may be worth checking all wheels spin freely when jacked up and see if you can isolate the faulty component. Also, check the brake hoses are okay and not damaged in any way Let us know how you get on with it

  6. Hi all just joined up to see if owners alike are experiencing any similar issues or have any suggestions. A few months ago I bought a 2021 VW Golf R-Line Estate. I love it apart from one issue which is brake squeal from the front brakes. This always happens after driving for about 5 minutes and only when light braking. Its very annoying! The noise occurred on the original VW standard disc and pad set which were only 50% worn (car has only done 23K). I have changed the discs, pads and the 8 metal calliper shims for genuine VW parts. I have also cleaned/ wire brushed/ re-greased the brake calliper and slide pins but the squealing noise still happens (new pads have been bedded in and discs are not glazed) In additional to this my brake pedal seems to 'clunk' twice when coming off the brakes. It feels like the master cylinder/ booster attached to the pedal isn't returning as quick as the pedal itself. There's also a slight grinding noise when driving. Anyone have any suggestion on what it could be? ...... calliper sticking?.
  7. perhaps try some adhesive on both the parts before putting back on ? It may work but nothing lost otherwise I guess

  9. The passenger handle to adjust the seat height keeps falling off. From what I can see nothing is broken. It pushes back on but never really grips. Has anybody else had this?
  10. Hello to you all, Newbie here. My granddaughter has bought a 2016 Polo 1.2 and she has asked me to fix the Air con. The light comes on with the switch but there is no power going to the compressor, I would like to get a wiring diagram so I can check it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank you
  11. I personally would put in a google search for Webasto roof and see what comes up but any of those search terms should also produce result
  12. Or can you tell me how should i search it? What's the name like ragtop sunroof, canvas sunroof or folding fabric roof??
  13. thanks a lot for the info! 🙏 Yeah, I thought it might be something rare like a Webasto. You’re probably right – after all these years it’s tricky to find one in usable condition. Maybe I’ll keep an eye out at classic VW parts dealers or forums – sometimes you get lucky. Even if it’s not 100% watertight, it would still be a cool retro touch for the Mk2. 😅🚗
  14. wow! that's going back some years! Haven't seen one of those for many years. It was a roll back roof made a company called Webasto - not sure you'll be able to acquire one unless it is from a scrap car but doubt the condition after all these years would make it useable and water-tight
  15. How can I install this kind of Roof on my 1991 Golf MK2? Any advice? Or where can i find it? Please share every info what you have.
  16. Thank you for your reply. It’s a difficult one. I’ve since had a test drive in two other Golf 1.5 TSI 150’s and both have similar characteristics to the problem I’m having. It looks like there is a fundamental problem with this engine when matched to the manual gearbox which VW have not totally resolved despite making claims they have over the years by releasing various engine management software updates. I’ve arranged a service appointment with the local VW Dealership early next week so hopefully they can come up with a solution. It’s a shame because I really do like the car and this issue is spoiling my enjoyment of it. It’s an approved used VW car which comes with the 30 day no quibble exchange guarantee. Hopefully a solution can be found and I won’t need to rely on this.
  17. I would think that a simple 'remap' of the Engine ECU would sort it out but shouldn't be doing that on a new car so I would throw it back at VW and says its dangerous and see what they offer
  18. I’ve purchased a 2023/2024 Model year Golf 1.5 TSI (150) with a manual gearbox and I’m having issues when changing gears (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd). I’m experiencing a hesitation in the response from the engine when I’m in the process of changing up and releasing the clutch. I’m having to reactivate the clutch until the engine responds which is resulting in a very jerky not smooth gear change. I’m aware from carrying out some research that this has been an ongoing issue with the 1.5 TSI Evo engine from when it was introduced in the Golf 7 especially with the manual gearbox. There are numerous articles on the web about this with customers referring to a juddering Kangooring effect. One article from a well known motoring publication reports this has been an ongoing issue with this engine and reports VW have said “it was aware of reports from customers complaining that some vehicles featuring the 1.5 litre TSI Evo engine with manual gearbox can be slightly hesitant in the the cold-running phase” They say VW insisted it was a rare issue and promised owners it was developing a solution but had yet to deliver. It went on to say that VW have released various engine management software updates over the years in an attempt to resolve the issue but to this day it has never been fully resolved. Would anyone else on here have experience of the same issue and if so did they get it resolved and if so how and when. I would be most grateful if anyone can help me because I don’t believe I will be able to keep the car unless I can get a resolution to this. Otherwise I really like the car and will be very disappointed if I need to reject it. In December VW Group said it was “aware of reports from customers complaining that some vehicles featuring the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine with manual gearbox can be slightly hesitant in the cold-running phase”. The firm insisted that it was a rare issue and promised owners it was developing a solution – but is yet to deliver.
  19. I believe the water pump is externally mounted from the timing chain assembly (but please do check) in which case it shouldn't need routine replacement as it would do if it was belt driven
  20. Hi All New touareg P7 owner, i believe the 2017 3.0 tdi engine is chain driven, so how often do you change the water pump and coolant. thanks in advance richard
  21. Hi all. As a long time Discovery 2 owner I am now seriously considering a Touareg. The story goes like this... I am sick to death of LandRovers! I considered going to an X5 as I don't really go off road much, if at all really (not including flat grass fields occasionally), but I was told X5's are basically a car and no better off road than a two wheel drive estate. I had barely even heard of the Touareg until an X5 owner recommended them to me. He said something like 'They are every bit as capable as a Discovery2 off road, far nicer to drive, but probably worse on fuel'. So my main question is that - fuel economy. I gave up trusting 'book numbers' years ago, it's a lottery. So I wondered if any real world owners without any motives could give me an idea of the sort of MPG figures you get out of a Touareg. I know driving styles, speeds etc vary, that's fine. Just looking for some real world figures from real world owners, maybe accompanied by the type of driving you do. And please don't say 'Don't get one if you can't afford the fuel economy'. It's silly. I can afford to drive one, but considerations of how much it will cost to do so is perfectly logical and reasonable! I've been led to believe 18-20MPG 'around town' and 22-25 on a long run. That sounds very heavy for such a modern engine but if it's true, that's fine. If it's likely to be more than that it's even better, and may mean I don't bother considering an X5 any more at all (as they are a bit better i think). Thanks, and grateful for any other comments/experiences/thoughts on moving from a Disco2 to a Touareg. :)

  22. I would take it back to address the issue with them - if they were willing to acknowledge the fault and replace components then the liability is with them However it could just be a case of reprogramming the vehicle electronic systems to resolve this issue?
  23. We are looking for help for a continuing issue with our VW Passat GTE Hybrid 1.4 2021 reg. Since we have owned it, just 12 months, it has had a recurring issue with the Braking and has been into the dealership a few times to get it checked and every time it has been 'we cant find anything wrong'.I have several very close encounters with pedestrians and being unable to stop at low speed when the vehicle continues to drive/drag forward. Since May the vehicle has had the AA VW Assist out to check this braking problem and they found an intermittent fault with the braking system. The AA also diagnosed an issue with the Differential grinding. So it was taken into the VW dealership we purchased it from with dash cam footage and a Warranty Claim for a new Differential and Gearbox, as they are a complete unit, a New Braking Boost Unit was replaced at a cost of £11,220! So we had a hire car for 6 weeks whilst this process was carried out. We were shocked that VW HQ actually approved this Warranty Claim to be honest it would have been cheaper to change the vehicle. So yesterday after having the car back for some 10 days, we were out driving and low and behold the brakes did exactly the same thing again and we were unable to stop the car sliding yet again. Has anyone else had this issue as it is becoming so dangerous now and we feel we have had enough of this continuing anxiety and have lost faith in the vehicle now. What would you do in these circumstances?
  24. Hi, Could someone please tell me the interval for the timing belt on a 2018 VW Touran 2.0 tdi. Thanks pete
  25. Hi, Could anyone tell me the VW interval for the timing belt? Cheers pete
  26. It would be best to go to your local dealership parts department and see what they list to fit your car
  27. Hi all, Apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum as I am new here and this is my first post. My friend owns a 2017 VW Passat hybrid and he sent me this photo (please see below) the mechanic said it's missing a cover. Can anyone verify what this is and if there is a cover please. Many thanks for all who read this. Regards Jamie
  28. Is there a side panel at the end of the dash that can be removed? It may only be able to be removed from the rear, behind the dash - maybe able to view it better if the glovebox / lower dash is removed
