  2. Mk5 1.2 3 cyl 60bph car starts fine when engine cold. After driving refuses to start it just keeps cranking. changed all spark plugs, all coil packs, engine loom wiring harness and starter motor. Problem still persists. any idea what this could be? Thanks
  3. I've replaced my 07 Alhambra Nav head unit with a £50 Android unit. This works brilliantly but I am now without heated seats or windscreens. ESP cancel also not functioning. I have two plugs which went into the back of the old nav unit. One is a yellow/blue/green block. The other is grey with blue locking clip. The Android unit has no sockets for these, only the black and brown connectors. Any suggestions? As far as I know the old unit did not control these items. How are they interlinked and can it be bypassed? Any help much appreciated. Dave
  4. Hi all, I suspect that the Vivo is not for sale in the UK but please read on just in case.... Long story short, some moron (i.e. me) tried to clean some old adhesive off this plastic panel using (acetone free) nail polish remover. It has obviously ruined the plastic on this panel as you can see in the attached image - It looks worse in real life! My question is whether this panel (not the light switch) is a replaceable / removable part and if not - any suggestions on how to make this look less terrible? e.g. sanding it down, some kind of lacquer.... I am pretty clueless with this kind of thing. Thanks in advance, DL
  5. Many thanks. Took the panel out and found one clip had bent and jammed. There was also a plastic centre screw on the back of mine. Replaced with a £5 eBay Android head unit. Absolutely delighted with this. Android Auto mirroring phone is all I need. Now have a new issue in that the heated seats and windows have gone. More investigation needed, glad it's summer!
  6. sometimes they take a bit of effort to pull out but keep the removal keys in place
  7. I know you mentioned that the car has been standing for some time in your previous post. Therefore, I would first look at wiring connections and the condition of cables leading to the transmission and control units
  8. Hi....welcome to the Club Hope you can make a good one out of the two cars. Good to have you onboard!
  9. Hi....welcome to the Club Hope you're successful in your search and feel free to share you find on here
  10. Not sure how far away the exhaust is from the rubber driveshaft gaiter and whether it is affecting the rubber (scorching it, drying it out, etc) I would pop into the local VW dealership and ask them to look it up on their parts system - if they can't order it at least you'll know the part number
  11. Hi....welcome to the Club Enjoy your Touareg and good to have you onboard!
  12. Hi guy's from a not so sunny Weston super Mare , new to VW and now a proud owner of a 2012 Touareg, what a motor!
  13. Hi thanks for letting me join. I’m hoping you extremely knowledgeable VW owners will be able to help me. Last year after my 2014 Touran 1.6 (owned from new) had a major service (40000 miles) there was an advisory note saying that the driveshaft heat shield was missing. I’m sorry to say I didn’t think much about it at the time but as I’m about to book this years service I noticed the note again. I have spent a little time searching on the web and can only find second hand heat shields from scrap merchants mostly and I don’t know the VW part number. Does anyone know if this can be bought new from a VW dealership if I give them my VIN number? I’ve obviously been driving around without this thing doing its job and wonder what damage I could have done over the past year? I don’t do many miles less than 5000 a year. Thanks for reading and any VW expertise on this topic will be welcomed.

  15. New here so apologies if I get some protocol wrong. I've looked at many videos etc onremoving the double din unit. I have used the removal keys and the unit comes part way out then stops. it doesn't slide out easily as in the videos. Mine seems to have something else at the back to undo. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Dave
  16. I assume you have the SE model? I have the same problem. The best solution could be to get a second hand head unit but the tricky bit is to find a VW dealer willing to code it to your car. My local dealer wanted £3k to fit a new media unit! I am also looking to replace the CD player with a single DIN Apple Carplay head unit as a cheaper option, but hoping others have successfully done this.
  17. Hi all, I've purchased a passat b6 bkp dsg with no reverse gear. When I first got the car it worked after being parked up for a couple of months. I've scanned it with Carly I will attach the errors. As since the car has lost reverse again and has a error stored in the gearbox and something to do with solenoid 3. I wanted to know if there is anything that can cause this I.e low oil or a service may cure. Or would you recommend removing the unit and repair?
  18. Hi all, thank you for letting me join am 36 from Liverpool. I am a big motor fan. I have had all kinds over the years. I have 2 B6 passats highline sports estates. 2.0tdi one dsg one manual. I became a vw Dec 22. When I got my first passat manual. Love the car, the space, the driving and economy and can still move enough for today's traffic. Unfortunately the rust monsters are slowly eating it away. Spring snapped. Turbo actuator seized, intercooler gone, windscreen cracked, spring snapped, trailing arm bush gone. So The second one I bought just this weekend for £100. Its a dsg with no reverse which I aim to fix. As its in better shape than mine. Failing that figure a way of making a decent motor out of the two. Hope to get to know you all soon here is a pic of my blue one
  19. Has anybody had any problem having Apple car play fitted to 2018 VW Touran 1.2? My local VW garage has told me it’s not possible unless I spend approx £1200 to ‘convert’ it. Why would VW make a car of this age to not be able to take it? Absolute mystery!
  20. Hello I am looking for a garage surrey hampshire that is a passionate as me to to look after these older passats. Both in great condition with current MOT, however starting to get excuses with age of B5 it is very low mileage. If you are garage reading this please reach out.
  21. Not sure but have heard about this sort of issue before and from memory it was a DSG fault. Maybe look in the www.audiownersclub.com and do a search for DSG shuddering or banging as seem to recall something on that forum
  22. It definitely sounds like a release bearing which may be slightly contacting the clutch cover plate diaghragm. This can be caused by incorrect clearance (if it is manually adjustable) - this will need to be checked that the marginal gap is there. Sometimes it can be aggravated by the driver resting their foot on the clutch pedal and this takes up the clearance which means the bearing is spinning with the engine rotation which if anything more than idle can wear the bearing and create the noise. Once you depress the pedal then the bearing is under load and the noise disappears. Alternatively it could be a cheap clutch kit which includes the bearing.
  23. Hey, my girlfriend recently got a new clutch done on her 2012 polo, and it has started making a clunking/ grinding noise when the clutch pedal is not engaged and the noise stops when the clutch pedal is engaged, i was thinking that it could be a input bearing in the gearbox(more then likely wrong) or the mechanic installed the clutch disc or flywheel incorrectly and didn't use an adjustment tool. Just posting if anyone has any ideas, thanks
  24. Hi, I am looking for some advice pretty urgently. I have a Passat CC 2.0 TDI DSG which I have owned for 2 years now, covered 30k miles so far. It was a business owned company car prior to my ownership so has full service history, main dealer and has had no expense spared. She's now sat at 200k and last week returning home I noticed a violent juddering coming from the front end when joining the motorway, it's never been there before. The DSG a few days before went 'bang' and flashed the spanner up, she has done this for a few months now but turning it on and off has resolved the issue. She's been plugged into VAG already and it shows intermittent dual clutch slip, but is not there constantly - garage told me to run it as is until it becomes stuck as didn't want to shell out money on it until I had to. I've had the car up on ramps today and they've checked all my tyres, balance etc and road tested it - I'm told there is a rumble coming from front passenger side even at low speeds which I hadn't noticed, they've suggested to me it's either driveshaft failure or DSG failure. Gearbox did go bang again this morning, but turning her on and off she reset and was fine. The judder is there a little upto 30 mph but after 40 mph it gets violent, like the front wheels will come off, it's not travelling via the steering wheel, but through the front floor and seats, the rear isn't getting the shaking I'm told and can't be felt in the rear. She's had Cataclean run through her a week ago when this happened incase it was an injector problem, but hasn't made it any better (or worse) I have no engine management lights on etc. Gears are changing rapidly and smoothly from what I can tell although at high revs from standstill she feels like she's struggling and the revs go up but speed not in line with revs, so maybe the clutch is slipping? I've been advised to go to the gearbox specialist first as no knocking, or noises other than a rumble when in motion, which I'm told is more pointing to DSG failure than driveshaft. When she's cold if you drive her hard she enters limp mode with the DSG but not when up to operating temperature. From it doing this I've covered around 300 miles like it and she hasn't got worse, but the shaking front end has me concerned. I'm willing to chance it if it's the gearbox and it destroys itself but concerned if it's driveshaft due to it possibly failing on motorway speeds. Also the shaking goes it you stick her in N while doing 70 mph, soon as you put it into D or Sport mode the shaking starts instantly. From what I've described does this sound more likely to be my DSG on its way out? If so, how quickly will total failure come, roughly?
  25. Thank you. Yes, garage says it's the blinking gear box!
  26. Oh dear, does sound like a transmission issue and would need recovering to a garage to diagnose further. Get a quote before committing to any repairs as this could be expensive
