  2. Hello I am looking for a garage surrey hampshire that is a passionate as me to to look after these older passats. Both in great condition with current MOT, however starting to get excuses with age of B5 it is very low mileage. If you are garage reading this please reach out.
  3. Not sure but have heard about this sort of issue before and from memory it was a DSG fault. Maybe look in the www.audiownersclub.com and do a search for DSG shuddering or banging as seem to recall something on that forum
  4. It definitely sounds like a release bearing which may be slightly contacting the clutch cover plate diaghragm. This can be caused by incorrect clearance (if it is manually adjustable) - this will need to be checked that the marginal gap is there. Sometimes it can be aggravated by the driver resting their foot on the clutch pedal and this takes up the clearance which means the bearing is spinning with the engine rotation which if anything more than idle can wear the bearing and create the noise. Once you depress the pedal then the bearing is under load and the noise disappears. Alternatively it could be a cheap clutch kit which includes the bearing.
  5. Hey, my girlfriend recently got a new clutch done on her 2012 polo, and it has started making a clunking/ grinding noise when the clutch pedal is not engaged and the noise stops when the clutch pedal is engaged, i was thinking that it could be a input bearing in the gearbox(more then likely wrong) or the mechanic installed the clutch disc or flywheel incorrectly and didn't use an adjustment tool. Just posting if anyone has any ideas, thanks

  7. Hi, I am looking for some advice pretty urgently. I have a Passat CC 2.0 TDI DSG which I have owned for 2 years now, covered 30k miles so far. It was a business owned company car prior to my ownership so has full service history, main dealer and has had no expense spared. She's now sat at 200k and last week returning home I noticed a violent juddering coming from the front end when joining the motorway, it's never been there before. The DSG a few days before went 'bang' and flashed the spanner up, she has done this for a few months now but turning it on and off has resolved the issue. She's been plugged into VAG already and it shows intermittent dual clutch slip, but is not there constantly - garage told me to run it as is until it becomes stuck as didn't want to shell out money on it until I had to. I've had the car up on ramps today and they've checked all my tyres, balance etc and road tested it - I'm told there is a rumble coming from front passenger side even at low speeds which I hadn't noticed, they've suggested to me it's either driveshaft failure or DSG failure. Gearbox did go bang again this morning, but turning her on and off she reset and was fine. The judder is there a little upto 30 mph but after 40 mph it gets violent, like the front wheels will come off, it's not travelling via the steering wheel, but through the front floor and seats, the rear isn't getting the shaking I'm told and can't be felt in the rear. She's had Cataclean run through her a week ago when this happened incase it was an injector problem, but hasn't made it any better (or worse) I have no engine management lights on etc. Gears are changing rapidly and smoothly from what I can tell although at high revs from standstill she feels like she's struggling and the revs go up but speed not in line with revs, so maybe the clutch is slipping? I've been advised to go to the gearbox specialist first as no knocking, or noises other than a rumble when in motion, which I'm told is more pointing to DSG failure than driveshaft. When she's cold if you drive her hard she enters limp mode with the DSG but not when up to operating temperature. From it doing this I've covered around 300 miles like it and she hasn't got worse, but the shaking front end has me concerned. I'm willing to chance it if it's the gearbox and it destroys itself but concerned if it's driveshaft due to it possibly failing on motorway speeds. Also the shaking goes it you stick her in N while doing 70 mph, soon as you put it into D or Sport mode the shaking starts instantly. From what I've described does this sound more likely to be my DSG on its way out? If so, how quickly will total failure come, roughly?

  9. Thank you. Yes, garage says it's the blinking gear box!
  10. Oh dear, does sound like a transmission issue and would need recovering to a garage to diagnose further. Get a quote before committing to any repairs as this could be expensive
  11. Sounds odd.....would start by cleaning the intake system and ensure that the throttle body area is clear of all carbon deposits as this may be affecting the idle speed. Alternatively, there may be a idle reset / adaption process that will stabilise the idle speed - of course this would have to be carried out using a scantool
  12. It will need to be scanned to see what fault codes come up and go from there....
  13. Hi....welcome to the Club Couldn't go wrong with the old Beetles and although the Golf has evolved to a lot more advancements it is still quite reliable. The old Mk5 is about as good as they come but do ensure it has had regular servicing and cambelt replacement and then you're halfway there Good to have you onboard!
  14. Hello, I don't know if anyone knows why my front wheels locked on my Golf? Drove to work fine, then tried to drive away in the evening and the front wheels are completely locked up. It goes into gear fine, and the will move an inch in reverse before stalling. There is fluid leakage, possibly gearbox? Any advice appreciated. Mechanic at garage wants to replace the entire gearbox. Thanks in advance
  15. Hi, does anyone know how to connect the wiring for a sub woofer to the existing wiring of the radio in my 64 plate polo as I have been struggling to fit the system.Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  16. Considering moving to a diesel Golf estate - MK5/6. Were there any year/engine variants without DPF? Appreciate any suggestions/info.
  17. No error codes. it started as an intermittent issue. Now, I have no power steering. The steering wheel is not vibrating or pulling... where should I look? Thanks in advance for your advice!
  18. Greetings one & all, Ran a couple of beetles in the '70's, but no VW exposure since. Considering a diesel Golf estate - MK5/6 - and hoping for some info from the experienced forum folk.
  19. I have a 2008 Touran with a 2.0 TDI 170hp engine. 2 weeks ago the RPM on idle started staying at 1100 from the usual 800-850.This happened everyday, but not every time the car was stopped. I did a check and not a single sensor or code was showing on the computer. In the meantime I changed a cracked water pipe which made the car loose about 1 liter of coolant (replaced now). And also when the RPM is at 1100 and when I press the brakes the steering wheel tends to shake or block for a fraction of a second when turning fast. Tried turning the wheel with normal RPM(800) and the steering wheel is absolutely fine. The car has been checked by many mechanics, but none have solved my problem. Anyone who has had the same problem or can give me a solution? Thanks in advance.

  21. I would test to see if it is a leak somewhere by blocking the exhaust with a rag being held over the tailpipe and listen for any hissing noises from the engine bay....a leaking gasket, split intercooler or hose/pipe, etc From there you can inspect the condition of the turbo spindle for wear and float and rebuild or replace as necessary
  22. Hi. I have a mk6 golf saloon off side wing for sale. It's just been sprayed but I hadn't realised a golf estate front end is different to a golf saloon. Also I have a bumper in new paint for sale and one not in paint which is damaged but repairable. Please message me if you're interested in either. Wanting around £50 for the wing. £50 for the damaged bumper and £150 for the complete, newly sprayed bumper.

  24. Hi All, I have an issue with my 2017 VW Sirocco R - On hard acceleration there is a squeaking / scratching sound but only under load any help would be much appreciated
  25. I am hoping someone out there has the answer to my issue...... I have a very basic but immaculate Touran to which I want to add below bumper fog lights. Fitting seems straight forward BUT as a basic model, the light switch loom plug has no facility to add the trigger wire to the assembly so it contacts with the switch itself. Has anyone ever upgraded the plug such that all pins are active and the trigger wire can be inserted into the plug?
  26. I would imagine there is one on the side and one it sits on along with a stabiliser mount on the rear (i think)
  27. Thanks, I will have a look into this. Is the motor in the MK6 side mounted or does it sit on top of the mounts?
