Faye Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Hi, I’m needing a bit of advice, I have a 69 plate Bluemotion Golf. I’ve just had the first MOT done and 3 advisory’s came up. Offside front, near side rear and offside rear all have a light misting of oil on the shock absorbers. I’m not 100% sure what this means? My cars done 20k so not loads of miles, should I be worried? And do I need to get this fixed immediately? The guy at the MOT centre said it’s nothing to worry about but I’m not convinced. Thanks 🙂
Volkswagen Owners Club Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 I wouldn't worry too much at this stage but worth keeping an eye on over time. If the oil is leaking or even weeping from the dampers then you will have an issue then
Bobdisk Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Had this on my previous car, a 2000 BMW E46, but on inspection of the shocks, I could not see more than a faint covering of fluid mist under the rubber sleeve. The "bounce test" worked ok on all 4 corners. I inspected it and did a bounce test regularly with the normal services, and it never got any worse. So I did not worry about it for 2+ years, and it is now sold. With a VW Golf MK7 replacing it ! 1
