Voice control

Hi 

I’ve got a m8 golf and when I purchased the it around a year and half ago. The voice control worked, however about 6 months ago it stopped working. When you press the button the icon appears on the screen, I say eg “ call James” she’s says pardon and then proceeds to give me a tutorial! The deal ships said they needed to update the system which has happened and still doesn’t work! 
any ideas? Many thanks

Is there an issue with the microphone (or an obstruction to it which could affect the sound quality)?
