Hi all I have a golf gtd 2.0 , hope someone can help? Noticed a few days ago that the clutch pedal was releasing slowly, only done it first thing in the morning then appeared to be fine !took the vehicle vw they investigated and told me that the problem is the gear box ? I don’t really understand why as the vehicle seems to go through the gears nicely with no problems ! They quoted me £600-£800 and worst case scenario up to£2000 if they find an issue with clutch or fly whel? Anyone had similar issues? I’m aware of some issues with the slow release valve .

Sounds a bit odd to be a gearbox fault if the issue is with the clutch.
Although it depends on what year the car is?
If it is a late car with DSG transmission then it could well be a gearbox fault
