Hi guys, I’ve just joined this forum although it’s been long overdue. I’m hoping to have some help here.

I’m not sure this is specific to the Touran but i’ve been driving at motorway speeds and noticed the engine seems to cut. If I press the clutch in and rev it, or change gear it kicks back in and it’s fine again. does that sound like it’s being starved? Perhaps oxygen or fuel?  it’s just had some fairly large work done, oil leaks and cam belt and it had been working fine.

You don't mention which engine it has but if it is a diesel engine then it may be air in the fuel filter area and also check for intercooler hose connections to ensure they are tight

If not rectified then maybe take it back to the garage who did the work for them to check it over 

its the 1.9 TDI (105PD)

Its been back to the garage 3 times now. They have replaced the fuel pump and also cleaned the EGR and intake which they said had a large build up of carbon. 

 

I test drove it again yesterday and its still cutting out randomly. Annoyingly when they test drive it, or when I take them out it doesn't do it. 

The cut out feels like a full lack of power in gear. When I change gear or put the clutch in and rev it works fine again. The engine never dies fully. 

 

I'm a little lost 

If the engine backs off on power at a certain rev range then chances are it is the turbo variable vanes sticking with carbon deposits.
Try a cleaner such as this and it should improve after a good blast to clear it through

So I'm a month in and no real change. However, I've noticed something. When the engine cuts, if I apply the brake and go back to the accelerator it drives normally again. I'm thinking this is a brake system fault. 

I did have the rear brake discs, pads and a calliper done just before this all started. 

oh that does sound like a brake grabbing....seized caliper or pads stuck in carrier
