  1. This is it mine its unmarked unbranded I would have taken a pic but my webcam is playing silly buggers
  2. Wanting to heat a push on connection and being unable to get a hot gun near it, my daughter bought me what looks like a tiny hot glue gun, its a catalytic hot air gun that runs on butane gas and is not extremely hot so perfect for shrink joints it has a cupping half tube fitting to pass the hot air behind a connection lovely useful little toy.
  3. PPS another Eric O bit of genious check the wiring diagram to see where commonality exists between linked problems, you may have a issue where your wipers share the Earth with the lights, if so check this earth and if in doubt pull it apart and rewire the connections split the wires between a couple of Ring connectors, seeing Eric using crimp/shrink connectors I've purchased some of those as when shrinking hot glue melts and seals out moisture, beautiful strong crimps
  4. I have been watching a you tuber channel called SOUTH MAIN AUTO its in New York state so no plug here and Eric O seems to find the most idiotic failures but his best advice is when tracing multiple failures go for the simplest first in that case a clock spring replacement fixed many smaller annoying faults, I did this on my Fiat Panda fixed the Horn, still have 2 airbag lights up but that may just be a reset issue, Eric Came across an Earthing fault, not the connector to body but 'green crusties' in the wires entering the connector, this has me being very watchful to check the PHYSICAL state of wires entering connectors particularly when many are crimped together. PS you will be horrified by the rotted condition of many american vehicles they seem to lack an MOT system there
  5. Dunno how close BRACKLEY (A43) is but Johns Garage did a bang on job sorting my Fuel Pump £40 an hour labour its £60-80 down here in Southampton
  6. I wanted to put motorbike in back but Touran only 34" floor to ceiling and I needed 54" minimum
  7. Did it stall while coasting? or lose power, check the fuel filter if it does it again if its empty......fuel pump! If it does it again reach under and give the tank a thump, do this with ignition on and see if you hear the pump running..........Hand brake on hard of course
  8. True I have done enough from pre can days to post can and always fit Towbars to larger car as me and the late wife caravanned a couple of time a year, trickiest part is fitting duel electrics you need a canbus bypass relay which does the bleeping and a split charge relay for the Fridge/caravan battery, if fitting both, the car battery connection must be heavy enough to power both and will need to be run from the car battery to the back of your vehicle and I found a power probe that nicks the wire and a test lamp to pick up trigger connections for the rear light/fogs/indicators/brake lights, Haynes Book woeful when it come to wire tracing half the wires are wrong colour codes or dont show individual circuits clearly so probing better. If you dont fancy Caravanning get a roof tent I have one from Ventura, which is under £800 for the basic model and under a grand for the extended model with an added awning that zips under the unfolded floor the Touran is the right Hight and if I get my Carens running that is slightly taller, I even tried it on my Fiat Panda but at 5' 7" i NEED TO STOOP slightly to walk under that and the zip awning is low and sags. All in all if you dont know what you are doing leave it to an experienced fitter But Towbars are generally easy to fit just assembly loose then torque up when assembled, wiring much trickier!
  9. I purchased a 2007 Touran 1.9tdi for Towing after my Kia Carens refused to start, fitted my own tow ball and dual electrics and Towed it to Santa Pod. 36 Miles short of the Pod it was pulling back, stalling and finally packed up to the east of Brackley on the A43!! Problem one, found a local rescue garage and £420 later Caravan is at the Pod and the Car was dropped at Johns Garage at Brackley, Im giving the Garage a plug here! Next day 8am Garage calls its the fuel pump, VW bits easy to get and Work time half what it is in Southampton so £246 lighter new pump fitted and the man hours 2.5 and £100, not bad Broke down at 2pm fixed by 2pm next day! Taxi cost me £65 to get from the Pod to Brackley. So £731 lighter next time I buy a 2nd hand car I will Join the AA for the 1st year I own It!!!! Here endeth the lesson.
  10. Fitting the towbar piece of cake seriously! I purchased an ANKAR flange tow bar for Touran the instructions to remove the bumper were with the kit, the Towbar replaced the rear behind bumper crash bar, bolting up was simple and only required loose assembly with final tightening by torgue wrench, the wiring was fed behind the replaced bumper and push into the car via a drain bung on the rear left corner. (cut made to bumper) Wiring used to be very simple but now these vehicles need bypass relays to avoid canbus errors and a split charge relay for charging and running a caravan battery, single N socket (BLACK) will require the bypass relay, I have done this at least 6 times now but even then needed to probe for my connections with a needle and a meter as Haynes totally useless and its wiring diagrams fit something but rarely what you drive. Take your vehicle to an auto sparks for this Job or as advised let them charge you for doing the whole thing I spent and afternoon bolting on the Bar and 4 hours the next day passing a fused 12v line to the rear to power the bypass and split charge relays as I fitted double electrics
  11. My old Kia carens has been a non starter for a year, had enough and am scrapping it, Santa Pod in a couple of weeks time and needed a tow car so here I am with a 2007 1.9TDi Touran, Towbar fitted (by me) double electrics wired (by me). Also have a Ventura Roof tent fitted for short weekends. After 40mph I get a drone from the front, jacked up all four corners spun wheels not bearings! Anyone here had problems with main pulley, Engine mounts or found a similar drone they have silenced? No steering twitch noticed or vibration under braking but front brakes need sorting they dont bite hard Tony
