Hello, So today i broke down in my 2003 1.4 mark 4 golf the vehicle lost power and since then the engine would not turn over. Upon inspection i found a toothed belt has shredded yet the belt that drives the cams is still in good condition and intact. I will attempt to replace this belt myself providing i dont have to have the engine retimed or however best to explain. Appreciate any potential help

  2. Any advice welcome. As I said in title I have just done the head gasket on my golf, all the timing marks line up I turned it over by hand to make sure it was not banging against the valves all good. All the marks still line up all the elec sockets back on and the ht leads are in the same order as they came off ie shortest to the closest ect. When I turn it over it dose fire sometimes but dose not start. The only thing I can see that might cause a problem is on the right hand side of the cam cover is a little bracket with what looks like a earth strap comming of it. Well the other end is not attached to anything, I can't remember taking it off when I stripped it down weat…

Hi I’m hoping for some advice on a problem with the monopoint throttle body. Engine fires up and then dies instantly. When I restart the same problem. The rubber throttle body mount (gasket) split and the running problem started after replacing the rubber mount. I’ve cleaned the throttle body and replaced the air idle switch. Is it likely the monopoint fuel injector is faulty and is causing the problem or is it possibly something else? (I’m wonderingif it is possible to test the injector before tracking down a replacement?). Fuel is getting through when turning over the engine with the starter motor. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Hi to everybody, I need some help please. My ignition barrel broke and the "mechanic" as changed the barrel the cluster the bcm the ECU and the gateway modules but the abs lights flash. The car drives as it should but I am unsure how to sort the abs problem. I do have the original modules but fear the mechanic as made a major problem as he did not change the abs module at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any advice.

Hi all. New to this club so hello and thanks for being here. We just bought a 2012 VW Golf 1.6 Tdi, 60,000 miles. Lovely car drives well. The guy that services my VW vans had a look at it today, says it's breathing far too much from the oil filler, if you remove it. He reckons it's rings or maybe piston. It certainly does puff well at tickover with the cap partly removed, bit of smoke too. Is he right or do they all do this??? Blocked breather maybe? Thanks anyway and hello again

  11. Hi all, just looking for some directions on what I can try next, grateful for help. My passenger brake doesn't come on when I depress the brake, and the yellow warning light shows to confirm it. I've changed the bulb, difference. The indicator light comes on so I assume that means the cluster is ok? Is there a fuse or some trouble shooting I could take to try and narrow the problem down? Thank you,

Here is my brothers - recently sold- Mk2 GTD It was crazy and we loved it. Fully strut braced, race Bilstein Coilovers, uprated anti roll bars, exhaust, I could go on for ever but the essence is it smoked everything, and I mean smoked! Black cloud and he was gone. Anyway, here it is.

  15. Hi, I’m needing a bit of advice, I have a 69 plate Bluemotion Golf. I’ve just had the first MOT done and 3 advisory’s came up. Offside front, near side rear and offside rear all have a light misting of oil on the shock absorbers. I’m not 100% sure what this means? My cars done 20k so not loads of miles, should I be worried? And do I need to get this fixed immediately? The guy at the MOT centre said it’s nothing to worry about but I’m not convinced. Thanks 🙂

  16. Hi all, My car (mk4 pd150) recently had to have a new alternator, auxiliary belt, and battery after the old alternator died. My issue isn't wholly fixed as after this work the alternator warning light comes on when my car goes over 2k revs. The garage told me I would need to get an auto electrician to look at the issue as they can't do that sort of work. I called the electrician and he seemed pretty confident that the garage fitted the wrong alternator. I rang the garage up and they checked the part and they are confident that it is correct. I have the auto electrician looking at my car on Tuesday but wondered if anyone else has any idea what is going on or if…

Hello ladies and gents. Long story short I'm thinking about buying a diesel VAG and have 3 options within my budget Golf 6 (1.6, 2.0) A3 8P (1.6, 1.9, 2.0) Leon 3 (1.6, 2.0) I'm wondering which engine is a better choice and which engine revision(year) is better. I also wonder what things should I look out for regarding mileage and what should I expect in terms of servicing in future, considering I change oil every 5-7k miles and flush radiators every 2 years. I'm trying to be realistic so any advice would be really helpful. Thank you in advance
