  4. Hi EFMax...welcome to the Forum Good to have you onboard I think it is a case of trying to find the best maintained car for your money. It may not always be the lowest mileage car and I think that it seems to be the case with most vehicles...if it has full dealer history then it should have had recalls and updates which will go a long way to ensuring the car has had the best start in life. Avoid 'school run' cars....found too many to be abused on the suspension, brakes and general wear & tear to the engine, transmission, body and interior. Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on Cheers, Trevor

  5. Hi, I bought a 58 plate Golf Sportswagen 2 litre diesel yesterday. I'm sure I'll be asking questions, previous car was a 55 plate Volvo V50 diesel, which was a great car, sat outside my house with 234,000 miles on the clock. Golf is " baby" at 159,000 miles.

  6. Hi I just joined, looking for some advice please. I have an old girl 2000 Golf tdi and at the moment she's unable to go out of drives very often (my ill health, not hers). I need to keep her going in case there's a medical emergency and breakdown cover is limited re. repeat call outs for the same problem. So I'm pretty desperate. I've been looking for a compatible solar powered battery maintainer. I've read that the AA one that has good reviews but the ad says it's for diesels from 2004 onwards, an EOBD socket is required. I have no technical nous at all, does anyone know if this would be compatible with the diagnostic socket in the car? Or if not, what would be? My local main dealer has no idea!! I'd appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Effie

  9. Worth watching out for strange occurrences with the electric windows as the ECU is under the passenger seat and tends to fill up with water.

  10. Hi Artviz, We've had ours 3 years and 30,000 miles and so far nothing has failed. However the most common failure on 50k plus vehicles can be the EGR valve especially with lots of short trips. They are a complex water cooled item and expensive to replace. Cheers

  12. I would like to learn more about the various codes, how to alter/get rid off/adapt etc. I now have a VAG COM plus OBD Software from CARPORT and all looks good.. but I want to learn more about my car, about the various error coded readings. My car a VW 2007 Touran, runs great, but the list of error codes thrown up is bedazzling.. so where do I start before I throw all my hard earnt savings at the local VW garage who at a £110/hr will happily empty my wallet.. Cheers..

  13. Hi Gayath.....welcome to the Forum I have to agree with you on the technology front but not always with the parts quality (they could certainly invest more in better quality components - like in the olden days!) Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor

  14. Hi all, new member here having bought my first ever VW (after 40 years of driving Ford/Vauxhall)...a Passat R Line Estate 2.0, 59 plate in lovely condition and 77k on the clock. I really want to query and get others views on the use of additives to the fuel,( Redex / Millers) but primarily relating to the Diesel Particulate Filter, Millers do an additive specifically to clean/regenerate it. Is it safe to use? Will it cause more problems than solve? Do others use it, if so does it work? Looking to keep it running flawlessly with minimal expense to dealers/garages etc! Have to say really impressed with the vehicle, massively roomy, and quick in a 'relaxed' way (getting to the age where I don't need 'excitement' in corning and racing off lights!), and very frugal on fuel. Any advice/opinions gratefully received! Cheers Chris

  15. Thanks for the reply Trevor, when I get time to take it to the dealer I will upate you. Definitely nothing loose that I can find anyway. Looking on Google it seems others have had similar issues, some say it's how the DSG box is? I can't see how tho as it sounds terrible. Thanks again.
