  4. Good Morning, I have just purchased a second hand Jetta, I am very happy with it, Its been over 25 years since last owning a VW, I had a very old 1967 Bettle love it, but sold it to go travelling many years ago. I am pleased I have found this site, as there is not much local info on VW here in Australia, ie forums or groups/ clubs,( that I have found anyway). A little info on the Jetta, Its a 2006 FSI 2.0 Auto, 93000k on the clock, I have just had it serviced and the Mechanic is very impressed with the condition of the car, previous owner was a friend of mine who looked after it very well, It was a good buy at a good price. Its now due to have the Timing Belt and water pump done, I am just wondering if anyone can advise me of the part number for the timing belt, and which would be the best brand to fit. I have tried to google the parts but come up with many different types etc, I am now so totally confused. My mechanic is happy if I can get the part, and he will fit it for me, ( Save $$) Apparently the coolant has to be done as well?? Not sure if this sounds right or not, but I do know its better to do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt, Your replies would be much appreciated and I look forward to informative information and enjoying being a member, Happy days ahead. Regards Aussielf

  5. Hi, I bought my daughter a 2007 VW FOX about a year ago. She has recently had a baby and was looking to see how to disable the passenger dash air bag so she can put the baby seat in the front seat facing the rear. There doesn't seem to be a disable switch anywhere and the owner manual says only a VW dealer can do this. Called local dealer and they say the Fox is the only one they can't do !! Apart from removing the air bag fuse !!! which i guess will disable all air bags , anyone here got a solution ? Thanks. Mike.

  8. Hello, I am selling my 2000 reg diesel silver 1.9 GT TDI MK4 Golf. She has done a lot of mileage at c. 234,000, but she is still going strong. It's a 6 speed gear box. The turbo has slowed down power wise, and it needs cleaning out, as stated by my mechanic. Internal wear and tear but the body is in very good condition with only a little rust on the bottom of the driver's door. I loved this car; the only reason I am selling is I bought another petrol car for a very good deal (petrol is more economical for me now, as city driving rather than long distance). I would break her as she would make a fair bit in parts, but I just simply don't have the time or space to do so. MOTd until May this year and currently declared as SORN. So, for this reason and for quick sale, I am asking for £400 ONO. Only sensible, serious offers please. This is a good bargain due to the demand and profit that could be made on silver MK4 parts. For more images, or questions, please let me know. Manchester area.

  9. Hi, My 2012, 2ltr Bluemotion Passat DSG has recently started to give me some gear selection problems. Basically it is an occasional problem, where ,after starting the car ,it is extremely difficult to move the gear selector leaver out of the Park position. It requires extreme force to move the leaver into drive. My vehicle is still under warranty but before taking it into the local dealer, I wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar problem. Would be grateful for any info. on this problem ,as it is very inconvenient to get to the dealer. Thanks Marsh

I had to leave my dear VW scirocco over there cause it was quite old and it would have costed me too much driving it all the way to England. As I've had some expenses in this period I had to use the bus, but now I want to get a "new" old one XD

  18. 2003 Jetta 1.9L TDI w/hydraulic clutch and 5 speed manual transmission. Problem occured suddenly not gradually so must be failure rather than wear. When engine is running and clutch depressed, cannot shift into or out of any gear. With engine off, can shift thru all gears smoothly. With engine off, shift into any gear, then start engine and let clutch out, clutch engagement is smooth, everything is normal until next shift point. Can't shift unless engine is shut off, then shift is smooth, engine restarted and everything normal until next shift point. Same thing happens thru all gears. Clutch engages normally with no chatter. When stopped with engine running, no vehicle creep with transmission in gear, clutch fully depressed and brake released. Just cannot move shift lever when engine is running, but shift lever moves in and out of all gears smoothly when engine is off. Checked transmission cables support bracket - firmly attached ok. Checked brake fluid reservoir quantity - ok. No leaks observed in lines from brake fluid reservoir to clutch master cylinder or to clutch slave cylinder. All linkage from shift cables to various levers on transmission move smoothly without any binding or roughness. Any ideas would be greatly appeciated.

  19. Can you advise on a compatible rear mounted cycle carrier that will fit my VW UP 2012. My car is leased so I don't want to purchase the roof mounted carrier (as advised by my local dealer) as it's too expensive. I have also spoken to a local towbar company last year and they advise the load weight of the car restricts the installation of a towbar. I thought a manufacturer may have made a suitable rear mounted cycle carrier now that the UP has been out on the market for a year. Much appreciate any feedback.

  20. Hi Trefor, thanks for the reply. Its fitted to a Nissan Almera N16 with the YD diesel engine Y reg, and old car, which responded to some tlc and a service very well, and which the lad used to get to work. In traffic one day it spluttered and stopped, so he waited a little while and restarted the car. It made it to nearly the top of the hill and stopped, with the mil light now on. It was towed home and checked over, fuel to pump and fuel arriving at the injectors. The engine runs on cheapo easystart so the engine itself is ok, with the cam timing etc. being fine. The pump was removed after diagnosis via the mil light, and, after making a special tool to keep the pump sprocket from disappearing down into the engine, and engine out job to fix ! The on board self diagnosis via the mil light says spill circuit fault. I know that the tranny in the pumps electronics that powers the spill solenoid/electromagnet has a habit of failing, overheating as its fuel cooled. This pump is fitted to various other vehicles, and I was hoping the spill solenoid was a reasonably common part. The electronics has a good chance of being repaired by a firm up north, who only require the electronics part, meaning that the wires to the spill and stop control solenoids need to be cut. This has allowed access to the wires so a continuity check was made, all good so far. I would like to know the resistance values of these parts, as the spill solenoid has a very low resistance, meaning it may be burnt out ? The stop solenoid has a resistance of about 5 ohms measured, which seems about right ? If the spill solenoid has burnt out, this may have caused the tranny to fail and take out the micro processer as well ?, or visa versa. If that is the case then a "new" pump will be needed, which will require "matching" to the cars ecm. The wires from the car ecm to the pump have been checked for continuity being ok. I will be making some "break out wirers terminals" in the engine compartment close to the bulkhead, so values and signals from the ecm to the pump can be seen on a scope, so at least I will know some hand shaking is going on. The other possibility is a bad connection at the ecm and/or pump, again hopefully fixable via the breakout wires terminals and some terminals at the pump. The pumps pin out is visible now and the terminal pins getatable, only needing some terminals that will fit the pins. If all this fails and we cannot get a pump at a reasonable cost, the car will be scrapped and our love affair with a Nissan will be well and truly over, for ever. We should have got a VW, but nothing was available locally at the time.

  28. Hi....welcome to the Forum The fact that it is 'on song' at higher revs suggests that it is something like a vacuum/air leak in the in the inlet manifold or associated trunking which is causing the lumpy running. A quick emissions test (Oxygen levels) which if higher than zero suggests thats the fault. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers, Trevor

  31. Hi Chris...welcome to the Forum Sorry for the late reply, missed this post. You could try to close off the 'Fresh Air' vents in the heating system to just allow cabin temperature to remain constant as opposed to outside air affecting the balance (e.g. cold outside + warmer inside = condensation) Let us know what you find works to resolve this Cheers, Trevor

However, you will more than likely need to code the new control panel into the CanBus system for to work. Let us know how you get on with it

  33. Hi all. Odd problem with a Passat B7 1.6Tdi Bluemotion 2012. Symptoms: Traveling at a steady ~50 on a clear road. Glowplug indicator started flashing and car went into limp mode. Got to where we were going and restarted a few hours later: Car seemed fine. Booked it in to be looked at. (Independent VW specialist) He did an ODB scan and advised he saw “Low manifold pressure” (from memory) which suggested air leak in the intake system He checked hoses, ducts and pipework and found no problem. Cleared the fault and a test drive didn’t throw it up again. A few days later: Waiting in queue at gas station. Space came clear and I rolled forward the last yard with clutch down, no brake needed and just canme to a stop at the pump. Glowplug indicator started flashing, message on console display “ESP fault”, followed by “Start Stop fault” (From memory) Fault cleared on restart A few days later: Going round roundabout gently (full 180 degree turn at small roundabout) Glowplug indicator started flashing, message on console display “ESP fault”, followed by “Start Stop fault” (From memory)and car went into limp mode Fault cleared on restart Booked it in to be looked at again. Had “Low voltage on boost sensor” (from memory) Changed sensor, test drive without incident. Going home later that day Just driving along <20mph, Glowplug indicator started flashing, message on console display “ESP fault”, followed by “Start Stop fault” (From memory)and car went into limp mode Back to garage and code scan still gave “Low voltage on boost sensor” (from memory) Diagnostics advice for “ESP fault” and “Start Stop fault” suggest checking the engine management computer (which could implicate whatever caused the boost sensor fault) We now wonder whether there is damaged wiring somewhere between the EMC and the boost sensor. The guy proposes to run new wiring and isolate old cables. Small update: I have fault code p0237 stored. Anyone have any ideas? Many thanks

  34. Hi, I bought a 58 plate Golf Sportswagen 2 litre diesel yesterday. I'm sure I'll be asking questions, previous car was a 55 plate Volvo V50 diesel, which was a great car, sat outside my house with 234,000 miles on the clock. Golf is " baby" at 159,000 miles.

  35. Hi all, new member here having bought my first ever VW (after 40 years of driving Ford/Vauxhall)...a Passat R Line Estate 2.0, 59 plate in lovely condition and 77k on the clock. I really want to query and get others views on the use of additives to the fuel,( Redex / Millers) but primarily relating to the Diesel Particulate Filter, Millers do an additive specifically to clean/regenerate it. Is it safe to use? Will it cause more problems than solve? Do others use it, if so does it work? Looking to keep it running flawlessly with minimal expense to dealers/garages etc! Have to say really impressed with the vehicle, massively roomy, and quick in a 'relaxed' way (getting to the age where I don't need 'excitement' in corning and racing off lights!), and very frugal on fuel. Any advice/opinions gratefully received! Cheers Chris

  36. Hi I just joined, looking for some advice please. I have an old girl 2000 Golf tdi and at the moment she's unable to go out of drives very often (my ill health, not hers). I need to keep her going in case there's a medical emergency and breakdown cover is limited re. repeat call outs for the same problem. So I'm pretty desperate. I've been looking for a compatible solar powered battery maintainer. I've read that the AA one that has good reviews but the ad says it's for diesels from 2004 onwards, an EOBD socket is required. I have no technical nous at all, does anyone know if this would be compatible with the diagnostic socket in the car? Or if not, what would be? My local main dealer has no idea!! I'd appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Effie

  37. You have certainly gone about the right way regarding the diagnosis but sometimes it is better to call it a day if the cost for rectification is prohibitive. I know some of the Nissan fuel pumps have had issues with the fuel control valves but even then it can relate back to another fault. Have found most of the electrical faults with Nissan have come down to faulty earth connections and in some cases, earth leads completely severing which leads to a whole array of running issues.

  38. Thanks for the advice - things getting towards sorted now. I highlighted the tyres and they put 4 matching new ones on earlier in the week. They're blaming human error for me needing to chase that after 2 supposed Das Welt Auto checks... and they're covering the cost of me getting the car properly valeted. Disappointing service, but I do at least love the car.

  39. Update. I took the car back in on that Wednesday. They couldn't find anything wrong apart from the battery being slightly under voltage. They asked to keep it overnight to give the battery a good charge, which I let them do. Next day I was told that the only problem being reported was still the same undervolt, so they were going to replace the battery at their expense because the battery problem wasn't being flagged as a problem by VW diagnostics and wouldn't be replaced under warranty.. I was told they didn't keep batteries in stock and that I'd get a new one the following week. Bo real problem with that as the car was perfectly usable without stop/start. So I drove the car away. Guess what, the start/stop was working. I could see by some of my setting that there must have been some sort of general reset performed so maybe that cured the issue. Goes to show they didn't bother to really test the stop/start, but just relied on computer readouts. Worrying. Anyway I drove the car for a further week with the stop/start working perfectly, but I thought I might has well have a new battery for all the inconvenience they had caused me. That was replaced yesterday. Stop/start is still working. Incidentally, despite all the warnings about various parameters having to be right before it would work, even in the cold snap we have just had, the start/stop is operable within about 30 seconds. So, nobody seems to be any the wiser as to what was causing the problem and what fixed it. Hey-ho. The cars are too clever for the technicians, I guess.

  41. Thanks for that. It's booked in again for next Wednesday. They know I'm not happy. Fortunately the car is still under warranty. I assume that covers a battery if it's faulty.

  44. Hi, Can you guys help me please I purchased a new set of wheels and tyres for my 2008 Touareg 2.5TDI R5. unfortunately they do not fit. They were BK Racing alloys with tyres 275/45/20 (9.5j) The supplier insisted these would fit and on trying one I found that they protruded about 30mm out of the arches. Can any body help me in getting the right wheel and tyres for my car. the offset I believe is 5x120. I spent ages contacting suppliers and was promised these would fit but unfortunately they did not. 46. hi, Both the key operated central locking and the electric front windows are not working. A local Independent linked their diagnostic machine to the car and it was pointing towards a Central Control Unit or perhaps called a Computer Control Unit, housed within the drivers door. It seems to be an intermittent fault strangely working okay in warmer weather but packing up in wet and colder weather. Does anyone have any experience with this problem please? The car will only lock manually via each door independently and the electric front windows do not work at all. Many thanks, Stephen

  49. Two issues I need help with. Firstly the mileage display shows ongoing fuel consumption (30.5 mpg which is 50% better in my new Touareg than in the old one) since I had the car, shows consumption on a momentary basis etc.. I want to be able to see the consumption on a specific journey - for example if i decide to drive to Brussels how can I get it to tell me the mpg achieved on that journey? Secondly how can I get it to boot up faster? Because the heated windscreen and heated steering wheel only turn on through the environmental controls on the computer, I have to sit in a damn cold car waiting the two or three minutes for the computer to boot up before I can start to defrost Can anyone help please?
